Working with the United Way of Central Carolinas, Childress Klein assembled and donated more than 300 dental kits late last month that will be distributed to several nonprofits that serve the Charlotte community.
The dental kits, which include items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss, will be distributed to Charlotte Community Health Clinic, the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, Safe Alliance, The Salvation Army Center of Hope and the Supportive Housing Communities.
Inadequate oral health is a common issue faced by the homeless in our community and can lead to oral disease and tooth decay. Poor oral health can also have a negative effect on self-esteem and employment prospects.
Through a United Way on-site workplace campaign, Childress Klein employees split into two teams and competed to raise funds and supplies for the kits. The teams blew past their goal of 200 dental kits, and as a company, Childress Klein raised approximately $75,000 in pledges for the United Way in 2017.
